A man is dead after being crushed by a 3,000 pound steel beam while working on the 405 construction project in West LA.
It happened around 3am on Santa Monica Blvd next to the 405 freeway. Sgt. John Juarez told the Daily News that the victim was killed instantly.
The man’s co-workers tried to pull the beam off him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
CHP and Cal OSHA are handling the investigation. This is the first fatal accident since the Sepulveda Pass improvement project begain in 2009.
The victim’s name has not been released. All work has been halted on the project while safety procedures are reviewed.
