Update 10:08am (12-12-2011)
Dave Ball from DB Photography happened by the accident scene and gives us this account:
My wife and came upon the accident some 90 seconds after it happened. We didn’t SEE the rollover, but we stopped to call 911 and my wife held the wife of the man who was killed and tried to comfort her. Fortunately for the other victims, there was what must’ve been an off duty EMT who took charge of the triage almost immediately. We weren’t 90 seconds behind the wreck, but when we pulled up, he was already taking charge of the scene.
The off duty EMT was the gentleman with the sunglasses. The other two were passersby. The one man next to the EMT was recruited by the EMT to help do emergency triage. The dead driver of the SUV was still inside the vehicle.
From what we could tell, this was a 2 or 3 car family caravan trip. The wife was in a van full of grandkids following the SUV that rolled over with her husband and sons inside.
We left when the air ambulance came. We told the officer on the scene that we didn’t see the actual accident happen, so he said we could go.
Hope I don’t get to see anything like that close up again.
Thanks again Dave!
Dave also provided us with a picture of the fatal crash on the 5 near Bear Mountain. This is NOT the man that was killed, but another passenger who didn’t appear to be too seriously injured. (Note: **Cropped to remove graphic area**)
