Update 3:38pm
No major delays around LAX or the 405 as the royal couple departs.
Update 2:24pm
As predicted the streets around Sony Studios (listed below) are heavy. The couple will head to LAX and are scheduled to depart at 3:30pm
Update 10:23am (7-10-2011)
Again, because of the weekend and light traffic on Sunday, we’re not expecting any major tie ups due to the movement of the royals. They will be visiting Inner City school very soon, with the event starting around 11:30am. The only street that is closed is Kohler between 7th and 8th.
Inner City is advising there will be no public viewing area.
After Inner City, they’ll be headed to Sony Studios in Culver City around 1. That’s located at 10202 Washington Blvd. Traffic impacts will mostly be local, but it’s a good idea to avoid Culver, Venice, Overland, Duquense and the surrounding streets.
Update 10:15pm
We’re not anticipating any major tie ups this evening due to the movement of the royals but we’ll keep monitoring…
Update 8:30pm
Will and Kate are at the black tie affair at the Belasco on Hill St in Downtown LA. Street closures are listed below…
Update 2:36pm
LA Times is reporting the Royal Couple will be transported via helicopter from the Santa Barbara Polo Club to Downtown LA so traffic won’t be impacted.
Update 1:03pm (7-9-2011)
101 NORTH to Santa Barbara is very heavy from Faria Beach, through Carpenteria up to Padaro Lane – which is the exit for the Santa Barbara Polo Club. Also a lot of traffic on Foothill Rd (192) near the club.
Update 10:21am (7-9-2011)
Reports are Kate will be handing out trophies at 4:30pm, which means they should leave shortly after. Traffic impacts in Los Angeles are most likely to be felt around 6-7pm as they travel from the Valley to Downtown.
Update 10:03am (7-9-2011)
The Royal Couple should be on their way to the Santa Barbara Polo Club in Carpinteria now. The event time is around noon – give or take.
So far we’re not seeing any traffic impacts along the 101 NORTH to Carpinteria / Santa Barbara.
After that, they’ll head back to Downtown LA for an event at the Belasco around 7pm which will require street closures and bus detours.
The following streets are closed:
- 11th Street between Broadway and Grand
- Hill Street between 12th and Olympic
The bus lines that are affected include 2, 4, 83, 90, 91 and 94. Here are the detour routes.
Update 8:55am (7-9-2011)
Good morning.. back on royal watch – they’ll be heading to Santa Barbara/Carpenteria soon. Shouldn’t be much of a traffic problem as 101 is looking wide open.
Update 11:35pm
Here’s a couple shots of the news media packing it up…
Update 11:32pm
Just talked to LAPD at the scene and the royal couple is staying in Hancock Park…we’ve got some pictures coming of the scene soon.
Update 6:52pm
We just uploaded a video of the motorcade on Olympic near Hauser in LA!

Update 6:22pm
Here’s a shot of the motorcade on Olympic near Hauser! Thanks again to Danny Fogle from our El Dorado affiliates in Santa Maria, San Luis Obispo and Victorville.
Update 6:01pm
Ok.. the motorcade is now in the neighborhood in Hancock Park and they’ve just arrived! Whew… thanks for everyone’s tips!
Update 5:59pm
BTW - Our friends at http://www.wehodaily.com tipped us off to some road repair work on Santa Monica EB at Highland. At last check, Santa Monica is jammed starting all the way back at Barrington.
Update 5:52pm
They’re moving very slow down Olympic eastbound in Carthay Circle area…
Update 5:46pm
Royal Couple still headed eastbound along Olympic to Hancock Park
They got tricky, went WB on Santa Monica to Ave of the Stars and then east down Olympic
Update 5:41pm
They’re heading down Olympic or Pico Blvd…
Update 5:37pm
On the move… headed west along Santa Monica and now on Ave of the stars..
Update 5:26pm
Royal couple out shaking hands at the Beverly Hilton… looks ike they’ll be headed out soon for Hancock Park…. Wilshire most likely…
Update 5:17pm
Still monitoring the situation…
Will and Kate are still doing some Q&A at the Beverly Hilton.
If you’re headed out now, the trick is to stay as far south as possible. Santa Monica and Wilshire are both pretty jammed, but Pico and Olympic are slow but tolerable.
405 NORTH is a mess from the 90 to about Getty. It’s under 5mph from the 90 to Wilshire.
Update 4:41pm
Will and Kate are going to be occupied for about an hour – so sneak out of the office if you can. Traffic isn’t THAT horrible – usual Friday traffic. They seem to have had minimal impact on the commute. FYI.. Pico and Olympic are your best bets, but stay away from the Santa Monica Blvd/Wilshire Area in Beverly Hills
Update 4:36pm
They cut through and ended up at Wilshire. … they’re just arriving now.. traffic is safe for awhile.
Update 4:34pm
Ok home stretch – heading EB down Santa Monica blvd
Update 4:32pm
Heading north through Century City
Update 4:28pm
Headed east on Pico in to West LA
Update 4:27pm
They just crossed over the 10 freeway and bypassed it
Update 4:23pm
Looks like they bypassed the 405 and look like they’re headed up Overland to the 10
Update 4:19pm
Moving down Culver Bl to the 405…
Update 4:16pm
So far they’re just driving down some minor roads. It doesn’t look like anything major is being closed for any length of time.
Update 4:10pm
Ok done schmoozing… they’re heading out!
Update 4:08pm
They’re still at LAX schmoozing with Villaraigosa and Gov Brown…
Update 3:53pm
Royal Couple just landed at LAX.
BTW - Metro says no planned bus detours today… buses will only detour as necessary for the movement of the couple
Update 3:40pm
Updated arrival time now 3:50p
Update 3:30pm
About 10 minutes until they are scheduled to arrive at LAX, although some say it may be closer to 4.
Also KCAL 9 is reporting the closure on June between 4th and 6th will last until Sunday afternoon.
So far typical Friday afternoon Westside traffic. Best bets right now are Pico and Olympic if you’re trying to sneak out before they show up…
Update 2:56pm
Royal Couple Will and Kate should be arriving at LAX around 3:30-3:45pm.
CHP tells us they don’t expect any “major delays” due to the visit. The agency says it’s working to ease the traffic impact of the movement but routes are confidential.
That says to me they are expecting the Royal Couple to take the 405 and/or 10 freeways since that’s their jurisdiction.
Also LAist is reporting that the only hard closure today is going to be June St between 4th and 6th. However, the whole Hancock area is to be avoided.

Update 10:51am
We’ve just learned the approx times of the Royal Visit today…
LAX - Arrive 3:40pm
Beverly Hilton – Event begins 4:30pm
So it looks like things will get messed up on the Westside between 3:30 and 4:30pm. They will probably take 405 to Santa Monica Blvd to Beverly Hilton so parallel routes and the freeway are most likely to be affected.
—–
They missed Carmageddon by one week, but Will and Kate will be making some traffic trouble of their own on Friday, July 8, Saturday, July 9, and Sunday, July 10.
Exact times haven’t been announced but we’ll update as we learn more and of course track the situation live. It’s unlikely it will be Obama level traffic, but they’re still going across some of the most congested areas of LA during Friday afternoon rush hour!
Condensed Version (if you just want to hide it out):
Friday afternoon - avoid the Westside, 405, Beverly Hills, and Hancock Park
Saturday – avoid the 101 near Carpenteria during the day, avoid Downtown LA at night
Sunday – avoid Downtown LA morning to mid afternoon, Culver City, 405, LAX around late afternoon
Friday, July 8
LAX – The Royal Couple will arrived “in the afternoon” be greeted by Governor Jerry Brown.
Beverly Hilton – From LAX they will travel to the Beverly Hilton (at Santa Monica Bl and Wilshire) to attend a “new media summit.” Since the summit ends at 5:30pm, it would seem they would have to arrive at LAX sometime around 2pm. Most likely they will be taking the 405 to one of the east-west streets (probably Santa Monica)
Hancock Park – They’ll head over to a reception at the British Consular-General’s residence at 450 South June St. That’s north of Wilshire, south of 3rd, east of Highland. Most likely they’ll come down Wilshire Blvd from the Beverly Hilton.
LAist is reporting a hard closure on June St between 4th and 6th.
Don’t think of trying to get in – LAPD is putting the smack down on the paparazzi.
Beverly Hills Hotel – They’ll be heading back to their $10,800 a night suite at the Beverly Hills Hotel on Sunset Blvd and Beverly. There are several routes they could take, but the most logical is Wilshire to Beverly Dr or Canon. This will probably be sometime around 9 or 10.

The possible "reign" of traffic terror that the Royal Visit to LA might bring on Friday afternoon. Purple dots are locations where Will and Kate will be stopping, and the red indicates areas most likely to be affected by heavy traffic. Map courtesy Google.
Saturday, July 9
Saturday morning they’ll be out of LA’s hair for awhile – and in Santa Barbara’s…
Santa Barbara Polo and Racquet Club – The Royal Couple will head north for a game of polo. It is unknown how they will travel, but if by car, they will have to head north along the 101. They’ll probably head down Sunset and the 405 to get to the 101.
The event location is actually south of Santa Barbara in Carpenteria at 3375 Foothill Rd which is north of the 101. Watch for activity around the Santa Claus Ln / Padaro exit.
The Belasco Theater – William is the president of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts and he’ll be delivering a short speech at a black tie dinner. The Belasco is located at 1050 S. Hill St in Downtown Los Angeles. We’re not sure if they’re going directly from the polo match to the theater or are going to stop off at the Beverly Hills Hotel.
LAist is reporting a hard closure of the following streets:
- 11th Street between Broadway and Grand
- Hill Street between 12th and Olympic
Sunday, July 10
Tusk USA - There’s a benefit they’ll be attending at a private home at some undisclosed location. It probably won’t affect traffic since it’s Sunday morning and not many people are out at the time.
Inner City Arts School - The Royals will make a trip to LA’s grittier side and visit the Inner City Arts School at 720 Kohler Street near 7th and Central.
No time announced but it will probably occur early afternoon. It’s pretty empty in Downtown on Sunday so it’s not likely to mess traffic up too much when they arrive.
However, they’ll be leaving and heading to Culver City so the 10 freeway might get a bit messy or any of the east-west routes between Downtown and Sony.
LAist is reporting Kohler Street will be shut down between 7th and 8th
Sony Pictures Studios – Yes, the same one in Culver City Obama visited last time he was in town. William will give a speech and the couple will help assemble care packages for troops in Afghanistan.
LAX – From Culver City they’ll head back to LAX (probably via the 405) and take off in the late afternoon.
That’s what we’ve got so far … but as we get closer more information tends to get leaked out and we’ll get a better picture. Of course we’ll be following it live for you all weekend, so make sure to bookmark this page, like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter to get updates.
