Rose Parade: Street Closures and Parking Information

The big parade is tomorrow and closures start tonight… here’s all the info you’ll need!

Parade Route

The 5.5 mile route begins at the intersection of Green Street and Orange Grove Blvd.  It heads north on Orange Grove, then east on Colorado.  At the end, it turns north on to Sierra Madre Blvd and ends at Sierra Madre and Villa.

The parade route will be closd on New Years Morning 7am-Noon

Curbside camping is not allowed before noon on December 31st. 

No upholstered charis, couches, boxes, scaffolds, tents, horns, ladders or free standing umbrellas are allowed on the parade route.  No alcohol is allowed either.  Folding chairs are permitted.

A curfew will be in place for minors from 10pm until 5am – a guardian must be present.

If you have grandstand seats, you should be at the parade route 30 minutes before the start of the parade at 8am.

Grandstand ticket holders may not bring coolers, backpacks or large bags.

Formation Area closed at 8pm on 12/31 until 11am on 1/1

  • Grand Ave closed Green-Columbia
  • Green St closed Grand-St John Ave
  • St John Ave closed Green-Waverly
  • Waverly closed St John-Pasadena Ave
  • Pasadena Ave closed Columbia-Waverly

Colorado Street Bridge between the 134 and Orange Grove is closed at 12:01am on Jan 1 until 11am.

Rose Bowl Loop closed from 6am-10pm: Seco, Rosemont, Washington, West Drive

Freeway Ramp Closures

No freeways will be closed, but several ramps will be affected by the parade.

Friday, Dec 31-Saturday, Jan 1

134 EAST Orange Grove off-ramp, 8pm-11am
134 WEST Orange Grove off-ramp, 2am-noon

210 EAST and WEST Sierra Madre off-ramps, 8pm-4am

710 SOUTH Del Mar off-ramp, 8pm-12pm
710 NORTH Del Mar Blvd on-ramp and California Blvd on-ramp, 8pm-10am

Sat, Jan 2

210 EAST San Gabriel Blvd off-ramp, 11am-2pm
210 WEST Sierra Madre Blvd off-ramp, 11am-2pm

Parking

Paid parking is first come first served at various lots around the city near the parade route.

You can get reserved parking through the Sharp Seating Company.

No parking is allowed along the parade route.  Overnight parking restrictions are lifted at noon on New Years Eve (12/31).  All “no parking” areas and red curb zones remain off-limits.

If you’re in an RV within a block of the parade route, Pasadena police will knock on your door and have a chat with you.  They are also permitted to search your vehicle.  Any RVs left attended overnight will be towed.

Public Transportation

The Gold Line stops at several stations that are all with in walking distance of the parade route.  Stations include Memorial Park, Lake, Allen, or Del Mar.   Extra rail service will be added to accomodate the parade and Rose Bowl game.

Metrolink is providing a couple of trains to accomdate Rose Parade watchers.

San Bernardino Line – Train 349 will replace 351 and depart 1 hour and 15 minutes earlier to accomodate Rose Parade Passengers

Antelope Valley Line – Train 258 replaces 260 and operates 36 minutes earlier for Rose Parade passengers.  In the afternoon, Train 273 will replace 265.

Weather

The National Weather Service is forecasting cloudy skies New Years Eve overnight, with temperatures of 44 in Pasadena.  New Years Day will remain cloudy with a temperature of 55.  Dress accordingly.

Traffic Tip

In addition to city streets, the 210 freeway tends to be very congested New Years Day in both directions through Pasadena and Arcadia.  In addition, that slowing often spills out on to Jan 2 because of the float viewing.
