Update 10/13/2010 – 8:21am
So here’s something that doesn’t happen very often – work went quicker than expected last night on demolition of the bridge over the 405 SOUTH. Ron Macias from Metro tells us that the construction schedule has been moved up a day!
Tonight’s closures are as follows (Wednesday, Oct 13):
- 405 NORTH will be completely closed from midnight to 5am
- 405 SOUTH will have just the carpool and the left lane closed 11pm-6am
- Skirball Bridge and Skirball on and off ramps will also close
See below for more info about detours…

For the next four nights, the 405 freeway will be closed through the Sepulveda Pass while the Skirball Center bridge is demolished.
The actual bridge demolition will take place between Midnight and 5am. However, the closure of lanes start as early as 9am.
Tomorrow (Oct 12) and Wednesday (Oct 13), 405 SOUTH will be shut down between Burbank Blvd and Getty Center.
Thursday (Oct 14) and Friday (Oct 15), 405 NORTH will be closed between Getty Center and Ventura Blvd.
Sepulveda Blvd will remain open as the primary detour route, although you may want to just avoid it all together and go around using the 101, 110 and 10 freeways or one of the canyon roads like Benedict, Beverly Glen, Coldwater or Laurel.
So what are they doing? They’re knocking down one half of the bridge and rebuilding it. In a few months, they’ll knock down the other half and rebuild it.
This is part of the bigger Sepulveda Pass widening project that is adding a carpool lane to the 405 NORTH between the 10 and 101.
